Grade Level Teams 16-17 School Year

Dear Wranglers,

I hope that you are all settling back into the school routine nicely now that we are back into the swing of things. As educators, spring is always a bittersweet time of year.  We know we must soon say goodbye to our kiddos, but as we start our final projects, it is impossible not to beam with pride over the growth and progress they have made. As we reflect upon our year, it is also hard not look forward, and so it is with great enthusiasm that I share the grade level teams for the 2016-17 school year.

Saying Goodbye:
We will be saying goodbye to two certified staff members next year.

Nancy Mann will be leaving us to move to Castle Rock Elementary School as their Professional Learning Specialist (PLS).  Nancy has been a beloved member of Sage Canyon for the last four years and we will miss her dearly.  We know in her new journey she will continue to impact a greater number of students and teachers, and that can only mean amazing things for kids.

Jacquelyn Wolfgang will be taking a year off to travel but fortunately plans to return to teaching. Jackie has been absolutely essential to the growth and success of our students during her four years at Sage and she will be greatly missed by all. We wish her the best of luck on the incredible adventure that awaits her.

Andrew Ubben will be leaving our HERO position to be the new Assistant Principal at Rocky Heights Middle School.  Andrew, while only with us a short time, will truly be missed.  His positivity and flexibility will make him an incredible administrator.

Class Lists:
Every year at Sage Canyon, the current grade level teachers compile a list of recommendations for students for the next year, based on academic and behavioral needs. Teachers create what they consider to be their ideal class lists as students move forward. The leadership team then reviews each list, assigns a teacher’s name to each of the lists, and grade level classrooms are created.

Teacher Requests:
At Sage Canyon, we do not take specific teacher requests, but rather ask for specific traits that would indicate success for each individual student.  For example, your student may need a teacher who is is a skilled writing teacher and who can make a connection with them over their love of ice hockey.  Knowing those traits will allow our team to place them with a teacher who can meet those needs.

I often get asked why I don’t take specific teacher requests.  Requesting teacher traits is so much more important for the fit of your child.  Consider the child I described above and the traits that we now know that we they will excel with.  You may have a friend whose child had an amazing experience with a teacher.  However, if that teacher would not possess the traits of being an extremely skilled writing teacher and a connection for ice hockey, there may be a better fit for your child.

I am happy to take teacher trait requests via email or appointment until May 1st.  At that time, we will begin creating lists and I will be unable to move students around after lists are created.

Teacher placements for the 2016-2017 school year will be emailed and live in Parent Portal the second week of June.

Writing about the next school year is always invigorating.  It’s so exciting to see a school year come to a close and a new one on the horizon.  Thank you for being the kind of school community that is warm, embracing and that I am so proud to be the leader of.

Very Sincerely,
Mandy
